I feel horrible. However, RdV was collecting student computers during first period, so I went to work. I should have called for a 1/2 day sub, but I didn't.

1) 100% of the students returned their computers and chargers!
2) Students worked very quietly so my head didn't pound as much.
3) Students wished me well. They are so cute.

2) I was able to complete preparing for a science activity. Also, several parents donated paper plates for our next activity to understand Geologic Time.

1) Most students were very attentive for oral reading of The Number Devil.

2) Students worked on Ratios and seem to be understanding some of the concepts.
3) CPS students are having a Week of Coding. Today they chose between typing, using an app, or coding. They could do a little of each since it is a block schedule, but many of them continued working on coding.

1) Students came up with great ways to solve a decimal multiplication problem mentally in 6 minutes.


2) There were some excellent math discussions from students working collaboratively to solve ratio problems.
 


3) Students worked together to discuss rock strata and then quietly typed their responses into a google classroom question.

1) Virtually every Period 1 student was on task discussing the homework without any direction from me while I was taking care of attendance.
 2) Several excellent strategies were shared on our number talk to mentally solve 13 x 16.

1) I had fun running and programming with Hugo.

 1) I spent the day with some amazing people, including Hugo Guzman, Jenny Navarro, & Alvin Nelson.


2) I learned a new type of coding, called  C and C+.
 3) I programmed my Linkbot to execute a figure 8 around some objects on a table. Most people were doing it on the floor.

1)  The IEP this morning was quick and easy. Thank you Kevin Hardy.
2)  I met my sub, she is originally from South Korea. She made me feel great because she understood it the Korean I spoke.
3) JP  is leading the class using her paper as a model for how to set up the final draft  of the letter to Dhaka city.

1) My students have a great sense of humor!
2) CPS students are using more strategy when playing SCRABBLE.
These students are either checking the 2-Letter Word and 3-Letter word lists or challenging a word with the official SCRABBLE tournament word checker.

The students are very engaged in the activity. They are better at scorekeeping, too.3) Science students began writing their letter to the leaders of Dhaka. They were all on task and did a good job with peer review.

Today was spent getting acquainted with the California ELD Standards with Anna from VCOE. I got to spend the day learning and collaborating with all of the Science teachers from the middle schools in Rio.
1) I enjoyed reading, discussing, and sharing information with colleagues.
2) I learned several protocols that I look forward to using in my classroom. The Dual Text Protocol is when participants read 2 different texts and share what they read with a partner, they then compare similarities and contrasts differences from the texts. The 1-2-4 (or 1-3-6) Protocol is when a person reads alone, then shares with 1 or 2 other students, and finally the 2 or 3 students meet with another group and share information. Mingle and Match.
3) We used the Geometric Reflections strategy which I've seen in the past, but haven't used with students. I like this one.

1) Period 1 students came in ready to work! Agendas out and done before the bell rang!
2) Students in Period 3 read a series of articles from their computers. They were very engaged in the activity.


3) Period 6 students read aloud and did a great job sounding out words like vulnerable. They also used context clues to figure out the meaning. We are on the right track!

1) I'm really enjoying the student observations during our 5 minute Number Talks. Today we did Which One Doesn't Belong and the observations were enlightening as usual. I only had one observation when I first looked at the diagrams. 

2) 100% of my students turned in their math homework.
3) Some of the solutions for the Goals 2000 were very well written.

1) Students discovered the equation for today's Visual Pattern. One student even knew that it could be written with exponents.
2) Creative Problem Solvers are getting better at giving clues and asking questions rather than giving away answers. They are still very engaged with Little Alchemy.
3) Students generated a list of 9 reasons scientists think an earthquake is likely in Dhaka, Bangladesh after watching 3 videos.

1) All students were able to log on to the Math Benchmark exam.
2) Creative Problem Solvers wrote about using Little Alchemy. 

Today in Ms.Townsleys class we played Little Alchemy and it helped me because now i know that if you combine something you can get something out of it. I added energy and earth and it made a earthquake I also made a house by adding brick+brick. Teachers should allow students to play Little Alchemy because it teaches you how thing are made and it is also science at the same time and we get to learn how things are made.

3) Students were very on task during Science reading today.

1) Students were comparing and discussing answers to a problem before I asked them! Yeah! I want students to compare answers each morning, but I usually have to prompt them. 
2) They solved today's Visual Pattern Problem quickly and easily.

1) Math students figured out the Visual Pattern in about 2 minutes! They supplied three different ways to look at it. MD supplied the equation 3x.
2) CPS students are learning to score in Scrabble. They are having fun challenging words that they don't know. Hopefully students will start being more careful about using names and acronyms.
3) Science students worked online and on paper to show what they know about eclipses.

1) Everyone was able to log on to the district Math Benchmark Test for Trimester 1.
2) Creative Problem Solvers came up with multiple solutions to a Krypto Challenge.
3) Science students learned about the word vary (and varies) today. They came up with several excellent sentences to show they understood the meaning.

  • The meals in the cafeteria vary from the meals in my house.

1) Today was pajama day as part of Red Ribbon Week (Put Drugs to Sleep), so students started the day with PJ photos.
2) Students in Creative Problem Solving collaborated on a puzzle.




3) Period 6 students worked on measuring and learned about the differences between inches and centimeters.

1) The day began with the sharing of Twin Day. It was a fun start.
 
 


2) The 6 minute Visual Patterns was interesting, several students shared. One student, MB, figured out the cube at 43 would have faces of 44^2. The video shows only one student response.

3) Students had fun learning how to upload a photo into their google classroom folder.
