Tuesday, 7 March 2017 UCSB Leadership Cadre

1) We had some excellent discussions based on activities from this Number Talks book from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Number-Talks-Percentages-Multimedia-Professional/dp/1935099752
Thanks to Jeff Linder.

2) Another activity involved exploring area and "discovering" Pick's Theorem. It looked like an activity from a book I own called Seeing Fractions. I need to check.

3) As usual, the day was full of exploration, reflections, and discovery.

An interesting quote from Phil Daro was shared from the recent UCLA conference. While in Japan, he noticed a difference in thinking.
USA teachers say: How can I teach my kids to get the answer to this problem?
Japanese teachers say: How can I use this problem to teach the mathematics of this unit?
