Another drawer has been cleaned out! All four drawers in the old built-in part of the room are now empty.

Creative Problem Solvers were VERY into their projects. The noise level goes way up but as I walk around, everyone is on task.

Solved in under 36 seconds!!!
CAASPP practice was held today and everyone was able to access the website.

I made a new video for Lesson 4 Hands On Equations. Students were working well together and seem to enjoy the worksheets which is interesting to me. The discussions I overhear show critical thinking. The students also love to be in expert groups helping students learn a lesson they already know.

During Science, students discussed alleles and genetic variation using an online Punnett Square Activity.

Another shelf has been cleared. I need to start working on surfaces around the room!

A few students have tried out flipgrid! I've also started trying out seesaw but there is a problem with noise transfer from student computers we've got to solve.

Thank you Betsy for delivering the EduProtocols book. I look forward to learning from it!

I'm getting to the point on my shelf cleaning project where I will have to change my goal. The remaining shelves contain materials that are being used and can't be moved or packed yet.

I got another drawer cleaned out. A couple of students cleaned up the headphone mess in the closet.

Creative Problem Solvers had an excellent discussion about coordinate points in preparation for their Bootstrap videogame.

I received a new book. Thank you Rio!

My back is still aching today but the majority of students were displaying the 5Cs as they went through their day. Creativity, Caring, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Communication.

Both Period 3 and Period 8 solved all 6 sets. Period 3 in 1:10 and Period 8 in 1:02.

I slipped in a little Which One Doesn't Belong and it's nice to see that students are comfortable with making mistakes!!!

My back was messed up but I made it through the day.

I participated in a case study for the Right Question Institute based on my experiences with the QFT (Question Formulation Technique) and learned of some ways other teachers are using the strategy.

Peer Leadership Training for MSPP was today and the majority of students who came for training were Caring, Cooperative, Critical Thinkers, who Collaborated and Communicated well.

I cleaned a shelf!

Productive day with the STEAM Academy staff at OSFS.
We visited the actual site and it was great to see the progress.

Lunch was provided and Eleanor and Joe from the school board joined us, welcomed us to this new adventure, and listened to some of our concerns. One huge positive is that they are willing to revisit the school name.

Maisie lead an IMP (Inquiry into My Practice) about personality and how knowing about the personalities of colleagues can help the overall environment.

Today was very stressful. I tried having students log on to the CAASPP system. Most were able to log on but there were some problems.

Period 3 students solved SET in 45 seconds!

My colleagues told me how much they care about me.

My Period 7 students found some interesting Newsela articles about genetics.

Tuesday, 17 April 2018

There were many positives today. To begin, I wasn't feeling very positive at the start of the day but felt very positive by the end.

Yesterday the wind ripped the door opening hardware right off the door. Today when I arrived, the door was all fixed.

I got another shelf cleaned out today.

In Creative Problem Solving, the entire class was interested in the Genius Hour project that one group was working on. There were mistakes happening and great discussions as a result. I heard words like density being bandied about which made me feel great!

The science students are very interested in genetics and came up with many good questions today.

Monday, 16 April 2018

I got another shelf cleared.

I had morning duty so I got extra steps before school started. There was trash around the area, so I cleaned it up and a student helped me out.

In Homeroom Mondays are dedicated to creating culture. Today the students shared compliments about each other.

In CPS, I shared the OZOBOT BIT that I won at Saturday's EdCampVC. The students were very interested.
Today we wrapped up the Pass it On activity about genetic variation among offspring. The discussion seems to show that students understand a bit about genetics.

Friday, 13 April 2018

I got another shelf cleaned!

Three of my students had birthdays today and one enjoyed hearing the birthday song.

Students really enjoyed flipping coins to determine genetic traits in our science activity.

Students had to determine new fractions when the original unit size changed. Some of the math explanations for how to determine the new fractions were very interesting.

Thursday, 12 April 2018

I cleaned a shelf before school, but later I had a helper! Miss Blanca was amazing. She worked at organizing many of my cupboards today. Huge help! I am SO jazzed.

Students were very interested in making sense of the parts of this puzzle. I was walking around the room and asked a couple of students to videotape their comments.

One of my students completed the Rational Numbers classroom activity, so I gave him this challenge and he whipped it out before lunch!

I attended a writing workshop at VCOE and got a little more motivation for continuing my practice.
