Walking field Trip Friday fun was had by most at the Kids Heart Challenge. Dave took some drone footage. My class was on the far right doing soccer relays. You can see my pink shirt if you look closely.

The students seem to be enjoying Inside Out and Back Again I’m enjoying it— I’ve never read a prose novel aloud to students before!

A young couple was taking wedding photos at the fountain on our way back and the students started applauding! The photographer was impressed and snapped a couple photos of applauding students! It's interesting to see what the students do on our walks.

Thursday, 28 March 2019

It was an incredible day. I had a "taking things personally" moment when several students didn't have their book display project.  I managed to see the good in the students who DID complete their projects, which were pretty incredible!

The students completed the rest of the cold reading of Name That Internal Organ. They did a good job today as well. They even sang!

We made it to Mr. R's room for Storymaker studio and the animations are coming along slowly but surely. I wish I could put a sample in here!

Students were very respectful of each other during today's Science Performance Task. We tried a different seating arrangement for testing since we don't have one-to-one desks.

I introduced Name That Internal Organ by Bad Wolf Press. The students did a cold read as a Readers Theatre and even sang some of the songs. They were engaged and impressive! I am hoping I can talk them into performing the play. Fingers crossed.

One of the parents made color copies of a book report sandwich for many students to use!

The gardeners have been very successful and have been taking their harvest home for the past couple of days. They are very proud of the results. It smells fabulous!

We had a successful day in the Storymaker studio. One group is animating and another finished the recording. I'm looking forward to the final results!

Several students have finished their Book Club books and projects are starting to come in. The first school Book Display was turned in yesterday.

The Rio Book NIC met at Rio Vista and I learned of more great books to read and add to the class library. I'm almost finished reading all of the ones from Round 1. Favorites so far are the Svetlana Chmakova books. I'm looking forward to Booked based on what I've heard about it. The students have a waiting list for Space Boy 1 & 2 and Svetlana's books.

All students have completed their pottery.

My students submitted work for the district art fair. Several pieces were of Pi Art from Pi Day!

The timing for transitions is improving.

Friday, 22 March 2019

Mrs. Burke was out with a fever and I have a cold but I managed the walking field trip just fine and  I got over 10,000 steps before leaving work for the day. My students have been helpful, hard-working, and good listeners.

Teacher Assistants helped me with juggling. I also started a Donor's Choose for more juggling equipment.

Today's reflections for Flowing Friday were on a padlet. The reflections are improving each time.

Hip Hop Mindset is always a good time. So many students really get into it. There is some major talent in the group.
We got started on the pottery project today. A few students finished. It's a little challenging but they are rising to the challenge.

The Nervous System Group had all of the students involved with their presentation. It was well thought-out, creative, and their fellow students were interested.

Students shared ideas of what they want 7th grade to look like at Rio del Sol. I was really impressed with the volume of ideas. They shared them on a padlet.

Body System presentations began. We heard from the Immune System group today. The life-size diagrams are looking good!

I introduced Book Snaps and the excitement in the room was palpable! Students didn’t have time to finish. I’m looking forward to seeing the final results!

Tuesday, 19 March 2019

Students played Dodge Ball with 2nd graders. The 6th graders didn't get to throw the ball, the 2nd graders just got to try to get the 6th graders out. I played Simon Says afterward and Mrs. Franckowiac was surprised when her students correctly touched their clavicle!

Students did
The Worst Presi EVER lesson today. It was hilarious.

First I showed this video and students took notes about what NOT to do. Then they had to make a slide show where they broke the rules and made a bad presentation. THEN, I chose randomly who would present. BUT they didn't present their own show, each student presented another student's presentation. Many of them did an excellent job reading (correctly) incorrectly spelled words. Lots of laughs.

Clean up was FAST! Less than two minutes. (I admit that a mile run was involved in the motivation for speed.)

Monday, 18 March 2019

The activity was making origami boxes which proved difficult for some students. It was a highlight watching students work together. Even more so for those who didn't give up.

Most students are really into the story I'm reading aloud and it's gratifying to hear groans when I stop for the day.

We made it into Mr. Romano's room to use the Storymaker studio and one group finished their audio portion. They were very excited.

Walking Day! Romano was at CUE and his sub helped but didn't walk.

Today was the first Friday we had 6th graders leading workshops. They seemed to have fun with it.

Two of my jugglers are working on club juggling! Several are scarf juggling and fewer got upset with the difficulty of juggling today.

The leaf print activity with 1st and 2nd graders was fun to watch.
