The district provided me with a sub for the Math Challenge and it was my brother! Yeah!

The Rio del Sol students performed well individually and as a team. They had a great time.

The Skittles Data Activity was started today and students interests are peaked! They were very respectful during the activity. Students came up with the way to display the data in an appropriately mathematical way.

30 May 2019

It was a typical May gray day, but the view over the river is good!

Some students made some connections regarding dot plots. They shared what they noticed and wondered about the regular graph and the ideas were good.

Silent Reading was actually silent.

29 May 2019

Firstly, from now until the end of the year the view is spectacular. Even though I couldn't see Santa Cruz Island today, the view was still great.

The students are excited to be in the new space.

The projects for Ancient Civilizations are coming together.

First Official Rio del Sol Day -- 28 May 2019

This morning we were greeted by the K-5th graders making a bridge for 6th graders to go under. I'm hoping to see some drone footage.

The t-shirts for the math team arrived.

The students enjoyed field day. I was in charge of the water balloon station. Parent volunteers provided the already filled balloons!

Tuesday, 21 May 2019

The morning meeting went well. The reflector was very observant.

I again urged students to concentrate on their own work during ST Math and they were quietly working for part of the time.

6th graders met and listened to their 2nd-grade buddies read and then read to them. We are planning a get-together on Thursday.

Monday, 20 May 2019

The students REALLY DO listen when I ask them to calm down and focus. I just wish I needed fewer reminders for them to stay focused.

I am getting things packed and ready to go. Most of the drawers and cupboards are empty.

Students enjoyed the new juggling scarves for a Brain Break today.

Friday, 17 May 2019

Juan figured out how to make a locked form! He is trying to make a breakout edu for Ancient Hebrews and this is the first step.

The students brainstormed and searched for synonyms to replace said and came up with an excellent list!

We received the official letter regarding the official move to Rio del Sol campus!!!

Thursday, 16 May 2019

Today was the last day of testing for me and most of my students! Again, the room was very quiet all morning.

I was able to get through the entire morning of rescheduled testing without a bathroom break. The rain moved our break to 10:50 from 10:30.

Rio del Sol sent Bagels and Cream Cheese for us to enjoy to celebrate the end of testing!

Wednesday, 15 May 2019

The morning was very quiet during the testing block.

Several students are collaborating on stories. One group finished a scary story and asked me to read it, which I did. They kept fixing errors that I pointed out. Now they want me to read it to the class. They are so very proud of their work.

I walked 2/3 of a mile with my students during PE. It was a lovely overcast afternoon.

Tuesday, 14 May 2019

Another quiet morning of testing. One little glitch - but hey, it was quiet.

The Ancient Hebrew group would like to design a digital breakout to teach their concepts!

I'm starting to get more cupboards cleaned out for the move in less than two weeks!

Monday, 13 May 2019

Today was a morning of make-up testing for 5 students and the rest of the students had to read silently for 2 hours. They were AMAZING! It was incredibly quiet in the room for the duration of the testing.

I enjoyed the salad made by the kitchen staff.

The student part of the room was very clean and organized before students left for the day.

Friday, 10 May 2019

Today was full of appreciation from the adults around me. The Rio del Mar PTA provided teachers with a 10-15 chair massage. The Rio del Sol PTA provided a very good salad of my choice from Stonefire Grill.

The two principals helped solve a problem linked to testing. They were good listeners and I really appreciated it.

I walked a mile with my students during PE.

Thursday, 9 May 2019

First thing this morning, AL presented me with a Lakeshore gift card this morning and a lovely card thanking me for being his teacher. Right after school, Ayden presented me with a container including some of his mother's homemade/designed cookies and other gifts!

There were donuts and bagels in the staff room this morning and chicken and tri-tip at lunch. Also a Certificate of Appreciation. All good. What a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week!

Day 3 of testing. The quiet is complete. Only the sounds of computer keys being tapped and noses sniffling can be heard.

Mother's Day creativity continues! I love the 3-D card.

I showed my Ancient Civilizations group about 2 and a half minutes of this video to spur their creativity. They are preparing to teach their classmates some history. Last week they presented and 85% of the students thought the presentations were boring.

Wednesday, 8 May 2019

Day 2 of testing and students reminded me to pass out earbuds before I started reading the directions. I also put the Do Not Disturb sign up BEFORE the test began!

Students had free choice PE after warm up and mile run training for 15 minutes. These girls worked on a catching pattern using their water bottles. It was impressive.

Students were asked to make a gift or card for Mother's Day and here are some of the results. They were watching Youtube videos and making their crafts.

Tuesday, 7 May 2019

My Donors Choose Juggling Project was fully funded!

Testing started and the students were very quiet and studiously attending to their work.

One of the Ancient Civilization groups is making up a game to teach their classmates about Kush, Mesopotamia, and Egypt!

Monday, 6 May 2019

Three students presented me with gifts first thing this morning. It is the beginning of teacher appreciation week.

At lunch, Dr. Cordova brought over the fixings for sandwiches along with sodas and chips for each of us.

Although the students can get a bit loud, they respond in under 10 seconds when I stare at the clock. I don’t say anything.

Friday, 3 May 2019

I thought today was our last walking field trip to Rio del Sol but it might not be! I really enjoy the walk.

There was a potluck today at lunch and the food was excellent!

The students not only enjoyed seeing their new classroom but they also participated in a guest presentation with animals. Their expressions were precious!
