We had a staff meeting to reflect on our vision from the beginning of the year to now. I accomplished my goals! I really enjoyed Tony Ostrowski's analogy of our year compared to playing music. I am trying to upload the audio!

My brother helped me move to my new classroom.

Thursday, 13 June 2019

The day began before school started when a few students presented me with gifts.

The first morning activity was to write on the whiteboard. The students also learned to play the math game, PIG. They later taught their 2nd-grade buddies how to play.

Most students were excited to see how much they had grown during the school year.

End of Day fun photo shoot!

Surprise after school gift bucket from Ayden & Stephanie.
Hannah and Kim had a great time with the Sewing Up Math!

Students voted for me to read aloud longer. They are enjoying Slider.

I presented my shark jaw collection to Mrs. Koga's class & Mrs. Shaw-Linder's class. The students were very interested.

All reports have been completed and required filing is done!

The band students presented me with a photo of the band with their signatures.

I found out how to do a test I didn't know about and have started doing it.

All of the P2 (Passion Projects) have been presented.

The students had a pizza picnic with their buddies and had a great time outside in the sun.

I could see the tip of Santa Cruz Island from the classroom.

I was very impressed by the creativity and collaboration I witnessed in the Ancient Civilization Presentations. A play, a digital breakout, a Peardeck slide presentation, a game, paper engineered costuming and weapons, and much much more.

I finished a MAJOR project!

Several boxes of books were transferred to my "new" room.

Friday, 7 June 2019

Students presented their end of year Passion Projects (dubbed P2) and they were interesting. Some were amazing!

Aalinah's Kindergarten sibling was participating in Kindergarten graduation, so I asked Aalinah to take the iPad and collect some photos for me. There was a video of K students singing You've Got a Friend in Me with some hand motions. It got me choked up a bit! Three of my students helped make the Kindergarten Banner!

I was flexible and my students posed for photos with the architect. It put us more behind on P2 presentations but the students were jazzed to be part of the photo shoot.

Thursday, 6 June 2019

Our guest speaker, Mike Saadati, gave a thorough presentation on weather this morning. The students were good listeners and enjoyed a Kahoot at the end.

P2 Project presentations have begun. Sydney's was well structured and delivered.

Many students produced impressive works of art at today's macro workshops. I was impressed with the creativity!
The band performed today:

The Ancient Civilization groups have their presentations worked out. We just have to cut down the time. We only have 4 hours for ALL 6 groups and one of the 6 groups split their group into 6 groups and asked for 20 minutes each. I admire their spunk, but they are going to have to cut their time!

The Ancient Hebrews group has a!

6th Grade had a Book Review Display Fair for all other students to see. The students really enjoyed it and I'm excited that most of the displays were taken home today.

Rio del Sol is experimenting with Macro-workshops. I only had 11 students in my Hands-On Equations which was nice. They seemed to enjoy themselves. Ayden really shined by working with a 5th grader in a very nurturing way.

I walked with the 6th graders during PE and added 2500 steps to my day. We played an interesting game of catch and the students earned a shorter run on our next PE day.

The day began with a nice parent conference.

At 9AM there was a Hip Hop Mindset Assembly. Juliana, Aalinah, and Amadis cued me from the audience and I copied the best I could as they did the Old Down Road dance.
Mr. Romano did a cartwheel! A few teachers tried the chicken dance and the floss. In the end, they chose me and Mr. Koga for a teacher dance-off and I won 3 dozen donuts for my class! I've also be getting compliments from several 6th graders.

Today I bought the school lunch which was chicken tacos with guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. It was GREAT!

Students ceramics arrived today!
